A company rewards its employees for punctuality by giving a bonus that increases in a specific pattern every month. In the first month, the bonus is ₹1,000. Every subsequent month, the bonus increases by ₹500 more than the previous month. The sequence of monthly bonuses continues for the entire year (12 months).

1. Sequence of bonuses for the first 4 months:

This is an arithmetic sequence with first term \( a = 1,000 \), common difference \( d = 500 \): \[ \begin{align*} \text{Month 1:}\ & 1,000 \\ \text{Month 2:}\ & 1,500 \\ \text{Month 3:}\ & 2,000 \\ \text{Month 4:}\ & 2,500 \\ \end{align*} \]

2. Formula for the \( n \)th month bonus:

For arithmetic progression: \[ a_n = a + (n-1)d \] \[ a_n = 1,000 + (n-1) \times 500 = 500n + 500 \]

3. Total bonus over 12 months:

Sum of the first \( n \) terms of an AP: \[ S_n = \frac{n}{2}[2a + (n-1)d] \] For \( n = 12 \): \[ S_{12} = \frac{12}{2}[2 \times 1,000 + 11 \times 500] = 6[2,000 + 5,500] = 6 \times 7,500 = \boxed{45,000} \]

4. In which month does the bonus exceed ₹5,000?

Set \( a_n > 5,000 \): \[ 1,000 + (n-1) \times 500 > 5,000 \\ (n-1) \times 500 > 4,000 \\ n-1 > 8 \\ n > 9 \] So, in the \( \boxed{10^{th}} \) month, the bonus will first exceed ₹5,000.
