Use this CBSE Class 11 Chemistry study material hub to follow the current 2026–27 Chemistry (Code 043) curriculum. The summative theory course contains 9 assessed units, from Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry to Hydrocarbons, with 70 marks of theory and 30 marks of practical work. XAM CONTENT already has free Case Study resources for Units 1–5 and MCQs for Units 1–2; for the remaining units, this hub links students directly to the current official NCERT books until more XAM CONTENT resources are published.

Do not memorise observations without understanding the reaction or principle. For every practical, know the purpose, apparatus, relevant chemical principle, observation, calculation or inference, safety precautions and likely viva questions. The current syllabus includes laboratory techniques, purification, pH experiments, chemical equilibrium, quantitative estimation and qualitative analysis.
1. How many moles are present in 9 g of water? (Molar mass of H₂O = 18 g mol⁻¹)
Answer: 0.5 mol, because amount = mass ÷ molar mass = 9/18.
2. For an electron in a 3p orbital, what are the values of n and l?
Answer: n = 3 and l = 1. The principal quantum number comes from “3”, while p corresponds to l = 1.
3. Across a period, why does atomic radius generally decrease from left to right?
Answer: Nuclear charge increases while electrons are added to the same principal shell, so effective attraction on the valence electrons generally increases and the atomic radius decreases.
4. What is the molecular shape of CH₄ according to VSEPR theory?
Answer: Tetrahedral, with four bonding pairs around carbon and no lone pair on the central atom.
5. If Qc < Kc for a reaction mixture, in which direction will the system tend to proceed to reach equilibrium?
Answer: In the forward direction, because the reaction quotient is smaller than the equilibrium constant and more products must form to approach equilibrium.
6. What is the IUPAC name of CH₃–CH₂–CH₃?
Answer: Propane.
How many summative theory units are there in Class 11 Chemistry for 2026–27?
The current CBSE Class XI Chemistry theory structure contains 9 summative units, from Some Basic Concepts of Chemistry to Hydrocarbons.
What are the theory and practical marks?
The current course allocates 70 marks to theory and 30 marks to practical assessment.
Are States of Matter, Hydrogen and the old s-Block/p-Block chapters still part of the current nine-chapter NCERT sequence?
No. The current rationalised NCERT Chemistry set has nine chapters. CBSE separately includes The Gaseous State and selected s & p Block Elements content for formative assessment only.
Which unit carries the highest marks?
Organic Chemistry: Some Basic Principles and Techniques carries 11 marks, the highest single-unit allocation in the current theory structure.
What does the Class 11 Chemistry practical assessment include?
It includes Volumetric Analysis, Salt Analysis, a Content-Based Experiment, Project Work, and Class Record with Viva, for a total of 30 marks.
Why are some XAM CONTENT Chemistry chapters linked to NCERT instead of an internal page?
XAM CONTENT’s Class 11 Chemistry coverage is still being expanded. Where a suitable current internal resource is not yet available, this hub links directly to the official NCERT textbook so the page remains useful and current.
