Besides enjoyment one acquires knowledge and awareness of things which normally one would not notice. It is an ideal way to spend the leisure time in a far better way than sleeping or gossiping which is a criminal waste of time.

Hobbies channelise the excess time and energy to more productive use. This energy, if channelised in the right direction, through promotion of hobbies in schools and colleges, can help the youth in becoming good citizens.
