IMPORTANT FOR 2026–27
Use Exploration chapter names, not the previous Class 9 Science numbering
CBSE Class IX Science for 2026–27 follows a redesigned integrated curriculum covering Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth Science. The new NCERT book is Exploration. Several older topics remain useful, but the order, grouping and scope have changed, so older pages should be used by concept rather than by old chapter number.

QUICK DIAGNOSTIC
Check a Few Core Class 9 Science Skills
Attempt each question first, then open the answer.
1. Which cell structure controls the movement of substances into and out of the cell?

Answer: The plasma membrane. It is selectively permeable and regulates exchange between the cell and its surroundings.

2. A car changes velocity from 10 m/s to 22 m/s in 4 s. What is its average acceleration?

Answer: 3 m/s², because acceleration = (22 − 10)/4 = 3 m/s².

3. Why can a mixture be separated by physical methods?

Answer: The substances in a mixture are not chemically bonded to form a new substance, so differences in physical properties can often be used for separation.

4. What happens to the momentum of an object if its mass stays constant and its velocity doubles?

Answer: Its momentum doubles because p = mv.

5. Which property of a sound wave mainly determines pitch?

Answer: Frequency. A higher frequency is heard as a higher pitch.

6. Name the process by which green plants remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store chemical energy.

Answer: Photosynthesis.

STUDY ROUTE
How to Study Class 9 Science Effectively
Combine textbook reading, practical work, diagrams, numericals and competency-based practice.
Step 1
Read the current Exploration chapter: focus on observations, explanations, diagrams, activities and scientific vocabulary.
Step 2
Recreate diagrams and models: draw cells, atomic models, graphs or experimental setups from memory where relevant.
Step 3
Do the practical thinking: identify variables, observations, evidence and the conclusion of activities and experiments.
Step 4
Practise numericals: for motion, force, work, energy and sound, write the known data, formula, substitution and unit clearly.
Step 5
Add competency practice: solve case studies, MCQs and assertion–reason questions after understanding the concept.
Step 6
Correct and retest: note whether each error came from a concept, diagram, calculation, unit, graph or interpretation.
