The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a highly competitive entrance examination in India for students aspiring to pursue undergraduate medical courses (MBBS) and dental courses (BDS) in government or private medical colleges and dental colleges across India. • Inception: NEET was introduced by the Government of India in 2013, replacing the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) and other state-level medical entrance exams.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Mode: Offline (Pen and Paper-based)
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Sections: Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany and Zoology)
  • Total Questions: 180 (45 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology)
  • Marking Scheme: +4 for each correct answer, -1 for each incorrect answer, and 0 for unanswered questions.
• Syllabus: NEET syllabus is based on the NCERT curriculum of Class 11 and Class 12. The detailed syllabus includes:
  • Physics: Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electrodynamics, Modern Physics, Optics, etc.
  • Chemistry: Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry
  • Biology: Cell Structure, Genetics, Human Physiology, Plant Physiology, Ecology, etc.

• Application Fee: Pay the application fee online via debit/credit card or net banking.
• Confirmation: After successful payment, download and print the confirmation page for future reference.

NEET Admit Card and Exam Day Guidelines

• Admit Card: Download the admit card from the official website and check for any discrepancies.
• Exam Day Guidelines:
  • Reporting Time: Arrive at the exam center well before the reporting time.
  • Documents: Carry the admit card, a valid photo ID, and passport-sized photographs.
  • Dress Code: Follow the prescribed dress code (light clothes with half sleeves, no shoes, etc.)
  • Prohibited Items: Do not carry electronic gadgets, calculators, study materials, etc.

NEET Results and Counseling

• Results: NEET results are usually declared a few weeks after the exam. Candidates can check their results on the official website by entering their roll number and date of birth.
• Counseling:
  • All India Quota Counseling: Conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) for 15% of the total seats.
  • State Quota Counseling: Conducted by respective state authorities for 85% of the seats.
  • Document Verification: Candidates need to appear for document verification with original certificates.
